Patratu lies in the Ramgarh district of Jharkhand. The town is surrounded by mountains and has an elevation of around 400 m or approximately 1300 ft, and has an extreme climate. It is around 45 Kms from Ranchi and 38 Kms from Ramgarh. The road via Ranchi has a beautiful valley which is about 25 to 30 Kms in length. The roads are broad and surrounded by trees and plants on one side of them while rock beds on the other side. One of the main attractions of the town is its dam, Nalkari Dam, on the Nalkari River, after which it’s named. The dam has mountains as its boundary on two sides, which makes the view beautiful and the dam picturesque at its base. There are a few selfie points in the valley for travelers and tourists and the view is simply breathtaking as the valley spreads from the hill to the dam. It’s quite magnificent and beautiful. There are a number of dams in Jharkhand but the dam in Patratu is one of the most beautiful dams there. There’s boating available on the dam. It is also a perfect place for a picnic, there are plenty of food vendors and small shops where you can eat at the base of the valley and some good dhabas where you can have delicious non-veg items as well. The best time to visit is post-rainy season, when the temperature is neither too hot nor too cold and the greenery is lush. You can also visit in winter for an equally beautiful experience.
